Waterproof

Tasman Leathers has developed PRO-TEC, a process for effectively protecting leather throughout the entire fibre structure.

PRO-TEC leathers are treated throughout the entire thickness of the hide to ensure that the individual fibres are coated with the waterproofing product. This provides:

  • Low static/dynamic water absorption
  • High waterproof performance
  • Durability
  • Consumer satisfaction.

We use the internationally recognised Maeser Testing on each order of leather to ensure that waterproof specifications are met before the leather leaves the factory.

Maeser Testing indicates the water resistance of shoe upper leather, replicating the flexing conditions similar to those in the front part of a shoe during walking.

International water resistance guidelines show that a Maeser Test of between 1,000 – 5,000 flex provides moderate resistance, while greater than 25,000 produces excellent water resistance. Tasman’s PRO-TEC leathers are required to reach a minimum 20,000 flex before they leave our factory.

Tasman’s PRO-TEC leathers come in three main styles:

OILED AND WAXED LEATHERS

These include Smooth Full Grain leathers, such as the Aquapel, which features a moderate oil pull-up and a mellow handle.

Milled Appearance leathers also fall under this category and Tasman offers two leathers with a natural, textured look:

  • Latte, a milled pull up leather with a soft silky handle, and
  • Tracker, a milled two-tone leather with an embossed snuffed grain.
NUBUCK LEATHERS

Tasman’s extensive range of waterproof Nubucks all meet the high PRO-Tec standard and include:

  • Nubuck, a plain waterproof nubuck with a fine nap
  • Huntsman, an embossed oil/waxed nubuck with a tumbled effect
  • Hummer, a dyed oil/wax nubuck with a fine nap and firm handle
  • Colt, a smooth-polished nap with an oil/wax finish and a mellow feel, and
  • Harley, an oiled nubuck with a mellow handle and pronounced nap.
COATED LEATHERS

Tasman coated leathers offer consistent colour while retaining the waterproof properties of PRO-TEC and include:

  • Typhoon, a smooth-grained leather with a full finish and a waxy touch
  • Turin, a lightly-finished full-grain leather with a mellow handle, and
  • Rio, a lightly-finished full-grain with a mellow/soft handle.
