About Leather

Leather is the most sensuous furniture covering, with an undeniable appeal to the senses. Even with your eyes shut you know fine leather. It has a unique feel on a luxurious armchair or sofa.

Leather is warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike synthetic imitations, real leather "breathes" to give you year-round comfort.

Leather ages well, getting more comfortable over the years, as it moulds to body shapes and softens, acquiring that lived-in look.

Leather furniture is hardwearing and ages well, getting more comfortable and typically gaining in character as it ages. Leather requires minimal care to prolong its life.

Leather has its own degree of resistance to fire and mould: few fabrics offer such peace of mind!

Leather is natural

Leather is a natural product. Tasman Leathers come from cattle raised in the clean, green environment of New Zealand.

Leather & You

All leather shares natural advantages as a furniture covering. Leather furniture:

  • is pleasing to the touch,

  • is warm in winter and cool in summer,

  • does not 'sweat',

  • ages well,

  • gets more comfortable over the years, as it softens,

  • is hard-wearing,

  • requires minimal care.

While retaining these natural advantages, the tanner's craft produces leathers with a wide range of textures, appearances and including greater or lesser resistance to soiling, fading and wear.

When you select your favourite leather, we recommend that you take all of these considerations into account before making your decision. Choose the leather you love, but ask and be aware of its unique performance characteristics such as the degree of resistance to soiling, fading, and wear.
